HORSEBACK RIDER

Once there was a monk named Ling-shan who wore an old and tattered kasa.

One day he was passing by a farm and he saw a scarecrow wearing better clothes than his own.

Ling-shan decided to exchange his clothing with the scarecrow.

While he was taking off the scarecrow's clothes, a man
riding a horse was passing by and when he saw what the monk was doing he asked:

"After you have taken off the scarecrow’s clothing and you
are wearing them yourself; what are you going to do with the scarecrow?"

The monk had no word in reply.

Some years later, the monk was enlightened and he was finally aware that the horseback rider was Avalokiteshvara.

If you were that monk, when you were asked the same question, what would you do?
